Abstract:
Today,
despite differences in details, many companies are approaching
the multi-screen home solution for video delivery using an
architecture that is surprisingly similar to one proposed
by FCC’s Allvid. There is a lot of interest in home
gateway type solutions feeding the IPTV or IPSTB.
The network topology in the home to distribute video would
build upon combinations of RJ45, coax and WiFi, but the underlying
technology that has the widest reach for the largest number
of screens requires targeted video conversions for seamless
delivery.
The talk will be about how manipulating video at an intrinsic
level (including scaling, transcoding, bitrate reduction)
can be an important component to achieve ubiquitous video
and audio distribution within the home network.
I will also demonstrate how smartphones and tablets watching
broadcast HDTV can be enabled as a technology today, all the
pieces exist to manufacture gateways capable of streaming
multiple streams.
