ICCE
Special Sessions 2010 (Status
as of June 2009)
Theme
No 1: Green Technologies
1(a). Energy
Harvesting and Smart Energy
Techniques for CE
Session Champion: Larry Zhang,
(Brian Markwalter)
Lead Speaker(s): David Freeman,
CTO, Texas Instruments
The CES is launching a new
Journal on "Energy Harvesting
and Storage", so this session
would strongly compliment
that new journal; this session
includes invited papers on
smart energy design for CE
devices and systems, energy-efficient
consumer networks and energy
harvesting for CE devices.
A lead speaker from the Energy
Star Program will present.
1(b). Recycling
Issues in CE Product Design
Session Champion: Brian Markwalter,
(Tom Coughlin)
Lead Speaker(s): Jason Linnell,
Executive Director National
Center for Electronics Recycling
Recycling of electronic devices
and products has become a
requirement rather than an
option. Today's engineers
need to be aware of recycling
issues even as they design
new systems and devices. Our
lead speaker is from the National
Center for Electronics Recycling
and will give an overview
of current and emerging regulatory
trends and discuss a range
of topical issues in electronics
recycling for engineering
and engineering managers.

No 2. New Directions in Television
(3 special sessions)
2(a). 3D TV
and Display Technolgies
Session Champion: Anthony
Vetro (Peter DeWith, Atul
Batra)
Proposed Lead Speaker(s):
Andrew Woods, Aljoscha Smolic
3D is becoming a "hot" technology
as low-cost HDTVs enter the
marketplace and many forthcoming
movie releases are going to
be 3D. A mix of reworked older
technologies together with
new approaches are competing
for a market winner. This
session will focus on the
most important and topical
issues in this field.
2(b). Internet/Web
TV
Session Champion: Stu Lipoff
This is seen as a major growth
area in CE industry with ongoing
developments both in roll-out
of these technologies and
development of next generation
techniques. Several industry
speakers will cover a range
of topical issues on both
technical and regulatory matters.
2(c) Emerging
Issues for Digital HDTV
Session Champion: Uwe Kraus
Proposed Lead Speaker: Charles
Rhodes
Now that HDTV has gone mainstream
what are the emerging challenges
and current issues with HDTV
broadcasting that CE engineers
need to know about. This session
will deal with the challenges
facing a new CE technology
as it moves to a new level
of maturity and reacts to
increasing demands in terms
of performance and quality
from consumers. Lead speaker
is Charles Rhodes a well known
and highly respected designer
and contributer to current
HDTV technology.
Theme
No 3. Personal Storage Organization
& Management
Session Champion: Scott Linfoot
and Thomas Coughlin
Covers issues such as smart
metadata for content sharing;
how to cope with growing personal
image collections and now
YouTube style video clips
... we all have them; has
anyone figured out what to
do with them all? The lead

MPEG group is currently approaching
such issues.

No 4. Smart Healthcare for
the Elderly
Session Champion: Bernard
Fong, Peter Corcoran
Proposed Lead Speaker:
Remote and Home Healthcare
technologies are coming into
the spotlight as our population
